Text Box: This wood engraved print was produced in the late 1800’s Publisher not known at this time. The center of this historic art piece is as close to the original as I could make it. The original news print was so dark that in order to make this piece stand out we had to restore it to it’s original beauty so that it can be enjoyed by everyone. In the process of restoring this historic engraving I enlarged the print and created a sepia copy, I then used the sepia copy as a border and simply placed the new copy into the center; making it more beautiful, decorative and interesting.

About Ferdinand Heilbuth;
Ferdinand was born in Hamburg Germany on June 27, 1826, the son of a Rabbi. As a young lad he traveled the country studying in places like Munich, Antwerp, Dusseldorf, Rome and Paris where he became a French citizen in 1876. Ferdinand received many awards for his creative talents. He also exhibited in London at the royal Academy at the Groves nor Gallery (1871-1878).

I found Spring hidden away in an antique store, the writings on the bottom of the newsprint read “From the picture by F. Heilbuth, in the Exhibition of the Royal Academy” So I’m assuming that this picture is an engraved copy of the original. Wood engravings from the late 1800’s. Engravings like this one took hundreds of hours for the hand-engraver to complete, Judging by the detail in this print the engraver had to be just as talented as the artist.
