This wood engraved print was published in 1894, publisher and the actual name is not known. It is signed by American artist Daniel Ridgway Knight, born in Pennsylvania in 1839. He attended the Pennsylvania Academy of the fine arts from 1858-1861 and then traveled to Paris and studied at the Atelier Gleyre and Cabanel at the Ecole des Beaux-arts from 1861-1863. Knight return to the U.S. for a short time to serve in the army; he met and married Rebecca Webster and in 1871 he and his wife returned to France –where they remained for the rest of their lives. This print was created by Ridgeway in 1894 at Le Ruisseau a rural area outside of Paris France. Ridgway died in 1924. |
