This wood engraved print is signed by artist Virginie Demont-Breton 1894. Virginie was born July 26, 1859 in Courrieres and died in 1935 at Wissant, the last grounding port in France. She was a painter of history, religious compositions, genre scenes, and landscapes. She got her last name Demont when she married painter Adrien Louis Demont. She participated at the Salon of Paris up until 1934, obtained an honorable mention in 1880, a third place medal in 1883. She received a gold medal at the Universal Exposition of Amsterdam in 1883, President of the Union of women Painters and sculptresses, she was named officer of the legion of Honor. She was most particular, a Painter of the life of the families of fishermen. Her works have been displayed in museums in Amiens, Amsterdam, Antwerp, Boulognesur-Mer, Calais, Douai, Dinkerque, Gand, Lille, and of course Paris according to Historians. The name of this print is not known, I call it the Anker, the same name that is on the building in the background.
