Thure. De Thulstrup was born into a distinguished diplomatic family in Stockholm, Sweden in 1848, T. De Thulstrup was educated at the military academy in Stockholm, served in the French Foreign legion and the Franco-Prussian war. He initially studied art in Paris and continued his studies at the Art Student’s league in New York City. Combining his military knowledge with his artistic pursuits, he specialized in war and navel scenes. In New York, he enjoyed a successful career as an illustrator for Frank Leslie’s illustrated newspaper and the New York Daily Graphic. During the Spanish-American War, he worked as an illustrator and correspondent for Harper’s weekly and Colliar’s. He illustrated numerous books, including those by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and Francis Hopkins Smith. He died in New York City in the year of 1930. He was best known for Military narrative and horse scenes. The illustration you see here was published in Harper’s weekly on December 23, 1882. Not exactly his style, making this print more rare. |
